- Maruthi Rao had the first brush with
theatre in his 14th year. A mono-action "Sasthrigari Jyothisam" written
by him and a couple of performances of mono-action of Shakespeare's
"Othello" featured his modest beginning.

- Soon, he founded his own theatre group.
They were the formative years of a writer and an actor. He almost wrote
all his early playlets- many of them are not available now. The first
play to be published and attain instant popularity all over Andhra Pradesh
was " Anantham". It won him the Inter University Best Script award,
as an entry from Andhra University.

Sottu are two short playlets , written exclusively for US audiences.
They were staged at over 20 venues in US and once at Manchester (UK).
The audiences at New Jersey, New York, Washington D.C, Boston, Indianapolis,
Houston, St. Louis, Tampa , Dallas, Chicago , Pittsburgh , Philadelphia,
San Francisco, Las Vegas and New Orleans thoroughly enjoyed the performances.
They were performed at TANA mini conference at New Orleans and ATA conference
at West Chester. J.V.Somayajulu, B.Padmanabam, P.L.Narayana, Tulasi,
G.V.Subbarao, Hema Chowdhary , Kaikala Satyanarayana along with Maruthi
Rao enacted the playlets.

- Another play "Taram - Antaram" written
by Bhamidipati Radhakrishna was staged at World Telugu Conference, Bangalore.
The cast included Maruthi Rao, Sowcar Janaki, Gummadi, Chandramohan,
Saakshi Rangarao and Vankayala Satyanarayana.

- Maruthi Rao staged the first scene
of KANYASULKAM ( Bonkuladibba scene ) at Tampa, New York, Delhi, Madras
and Vizianagaram. While Maruthi Rao did the role of Girisam, Garimmella
Ramamurthi, Ravi Kondala Rao, J.V.Somayajulu, P.Nagendra Kumar, G.V.Subbarao
did the other roles, at different venues.

- Another memorable experience was the
staging of " Danta Vedantam" (Bhamidipati Radhakrishna ) representing
AIR, Hyderabad in Central Govt. Employees Competition with Nyapathi
Raghava Rao ( Radio Annayya), M.Vasudeva Murthy, P.Panduranga Rao (
who later become Station Director) , V.Satyanarayana and Ratan Prasad.
